Why the Electoral College? It’s Simple

Dennis Prager is a conservative radio talk show host who is completely wrong on a lot of things. But his PragerU videos are pretty good walkthroughs of why things exist the way they are. If you haven’t seen this one – I haven’t until today – here is a very good understanding of why the United States elects the president via an Electoral College and why it’s important.
A few quick things to remember, too:
1) Clinton has not “won” the popular vote yet. Ballots are still being counted. As well, she may win the ballots counted but not ballots cast. This is an important distinction. Millions of overseas ballots haven’t been counted yet, including military ballots, and never are; states don’t count overseas ballots unless the number of outstanding ballots is larger than the state margin of difference. Did you all forget the 2000 election? There are nearly 6 million expat voters overseas right now. So neither you nor Michael Moore nor anyone else KNOWS if Clinton “won” the popular vote or not – and you never will, actually.
2) There has never been a 14th Amendment Supreme Court challenge to Article II and even if there were a challenge, it would be thrown out. The Electoral College is not unconstitutional; it IS the Constitution.
3) In order to change the Constitution, an amendment would be needed to change the Electoral College. It would have to be proposed in Congress – isn’t happening – with approval of 2/3rds of both the House and Senate – isn’t happening – and by a convention of states – 2/3rds of legislatures – isn’t happening. So, waste your time petitioning away. It isn’t happening. And before you blame Republicans, it wouldn’t pass when the Democrats held the House, Senate, presidency, and state legislators and …
5) In 2009, the last time Democrats controlled everything IT WASN’T PROPOSED. Why? Because they didn’t lose and didn’t want to change it. And that is what this ENTIRE ISSUE is about – temper tantrum Sore Loserman, again.
6) The election of the president is a chess game. Everyone who runs knows the rules when they run. No one who loses at chess says, “I lost because the rook can’t move diagonally, that needs to be changed so I can win!” When playing chess, you learn new strategies and ways of winning.
7) We live in a Constitutional Republic – not a democracy. The federal government exists to preserve the individual rights that are in the founding principles not trample over the minority with what the mob wants. These rights are very limited; it’s what you do with them that matters.
8) The United States is a very divided place and it has been for a very, very long time. While many believe that this is due to ” the isms” (or “phobes,” if you will), I don’t agree. It really has to do with the lack of acceptance of what I have outlined above. And it becomes even clearer when we see lunatic Snowflake Nation in the streets setting things on fire while lecturing everyone that “love trumps hate” while hating Trump, his supporters, America and its purpose itself, and everything else. This is huge problem.
